A regional logistics operation rebuilt around its own on-prem server — a standardized laptop fleet, dual-monitor dispatch workstations, and a segmented business network that stays up during the rush.
Dispatch software lived on an in-house server, but everything around it was improvised: a mixed-age laptop fleet, a consumer router carrying the whole building, dead Wi-Fi near the warehouse door, and network drops that froze dispatch at the worst possible hour. No two workstations matched, so every fix was a one-off.
We audited what existed before quoting anything — the server stayed, and the plan was built around protecting it. Workstations were standardized to one business-laptop loadout with docking stations and dual monitors, so dispatch, ops, and accounting all work (and get repaired) the same way. The network was redesigned as a business network: modem and router/firewall with failover, a managed PoE switch with VLANs separating dispatch traffic from office and guest use, access points positioned for real coverage into the warehouse-adjacent spaces, and a rack UPS so a power blip no longer reboots the server mid-shift. Rollout went department by department — nobody lost a workday, and the old machines were retired on a schedule instead of at random.
Dispatch stopped going down with the Wi-Fi. The company now has one accountable supplier, a standard loadout for every new hire, and a replacement schedule instead of surprise failures — with the server it already trusted at the center, properly protected for the first time.
